Solomon Island Asset
New Forests is the investment manager of
Kolombangara Forest Products Ltd (KFPL) on the island of Kolombangara in the Solomon Islands. The 39,000-hectare KFPL estate comprises 12,000 hectares of hardwood plantations, including teak, eucalyptus, gmelina, mahogany and others species, and over 25,000 hectares of natural rainforest under conservation and natural forest management. KFPL's operations achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification in 1999, the first in the Asia-Pacific region. Read the

Hawaii Asset
New Forests is the investment manager for a 3,700-acre Eucalyptus grandis plantation on the island of Hawaii on behalf of
Cambium Global Timberland Ltd. Harvesting is expected to begin in the mature plantation in 2008. The property will be managed for future timber production, which may include replanting of Eucalypt species or the establishment of high-value tropical hardwood plantations. New Forests’ will also aim to monetize values associated with emerging environmental markets. For example, the property includes over 2,400 acres of intact native forest with significant biodiversity value, and there may be carbon trading opportunities in emerging domestic markets.
