Energy Companies

Energy generators, distributors and retailers face a paradox related to action on climate change: While there is an ever increasing demand for their services, they are also the largest point source producer of carbon dioxide emissions. This presents commercial risks related to future investment decisions, which governments around the world are trying to address through various emissions trading schemes. While there are exposures to potential regulations, there are also opportunities for energy companies to help their clients manage emission levels by providing lower emission energy or carbon neutral energy. Additionally, many energy companies own large areas of land around their power stations that are often considered "dead assets." The environmental services provided by these land holdings may have commercial value or could be rehabilitated to offset the company's own environmental footprint. New Forests can develop a range of strategies for energy companies to manage exposures and develop new service offerings.
