Forestry Companies

Companies operating in the forestry sector potentially have additional valuable assets from the environmental benefits of their forests. More than $13 billion was traded in carbon credits in 2005 in global markets, with $65 million being under the NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme. It is not a core competency for most forestry companies to assess, value and market their environmental assets, but carbon sequestration can be worth in the order of several hundred to thousands of dollars per hectare. New Forests can help forestry companies access this revenue stream in both regulatory and voluntary markets by characterising carbon assets, developing market-ready carbon credit products, managing accreditation and verification processes and structuring transactions.
