Darius Sarshar
Manager, Eco Products Asia
Darius Sarshar has responsibility for the development of New Forests' carbon and biodiversity business in Asia. This business includes assets such as biobanks and REDD projects, as well as development of carbon and biodiversity revenues from potential forestry assets. He is also an adviser for the company'sSocial and Environment Management System (SEMS). Darius has 18 years experience working in forestry in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe. Prior to joining New Forests, he worked as a global forestry adviser at WWF International where he worked on partnerships with leading tropical forestry companies and major timber buyers, advised on certification policy and worked with leading commercial and investment banks in Asia on forestry investment policies. He has also worked as Director of the market-leading SGS global FSC certification programme, Qualifor, following periods in plantation management in the UK and Tanzania (Commonwealth Development Corporation), community forestry (Concern Worldwide, World Bank) and field biology (Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute). Darius has a Bachelor (Honours) in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, UK, an MSc in Forestry from the University of Oxford and is studying for an MBA at the University of Melbourne. He is based in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
