John has been on New Forests' Board of Directors since the company's inception in 2005, when he helped arrange finance and advise on the management buy-out of the initial business from Hancock Natural Resource Group. John has been a keen supporter of the New Forests' business model with its strong emphasis upon achieving environmental sustainability.
John has an investment banking background, with a focus on structured and principal finance. He has direct transactional experience in the forestry sector, including the purchase, restructure and profitable sale of AU$80 million of plantation assets in SW Australia and Victoria, the development of sawmill assets in South Australia and various acquisitions in association with New Forests. Previous roles have included being the founding Managing Director of a wholesale mortgage finance company, which grew to have over $1 billion under management. He was also a founding member of Zurich Capital Markets Australia and has held investment banking positions at Deutsche Bank and Bankers Trust Australia. John has also worked as an economist for the Federal Department of the Treasury of Australia.
John has a Bachelor of Commerce (Hon) in Finance from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Australian National University.
